L is for….. Lethargy

IMG_3050

This is a picture I took of my Little E at the weekend.

Summertime is fabulous.

The sun shines, the days are longer, it means we get to play out in the garden in nothing but swimsuits or even in our birthday suits (the girls, not me).

It means balmy evenings, day trips, summer holidays and BBQs.

But I think the heat took its toll on Little E this weekend when we visited my sisters for a family BBQ.

All of a sudden it looked like it had got just that little bit too much for her.

So, like all loving and doting mothers out there, rather than whisking her quickly out of the heat and plying her with lots of water, I had to rush to my phone and quickly snap a cheeky photo!!

Don’t worry – I whisked her up straight afterwards!

It was just too cute to miss.

Wish I could just lie down in the sun without having two little munchkins clambering all over me!!

siblings…. { july }

As my first link up to the fabulous dear beautiful for Siblings July, I’m afraid I’ve not come very prepared!

At all!

For a start I could have at least clothed my children!!!

Though to be honest – this is how my girls like to spend most of their time.

Naked!!

Naked and natural!!

And why not I say!

And by the looks of it, we’re not the only ones enjoying naked splashing fun in paddling pools – I just read the post from Romanian Mum Blog too.

I wonder how many other gardens had little ones running around and playing in paddling pools too!

IMG_6216

Although I will spare you from the overly naked photographs, which also probably wouldn’t go down very well when we’re all sitting together as a family looking back through my blog in years to come too!!

So this also perhaps explains why I didn’t have many photos I could really put onto my blog post.

This is the first time we had the paddling pool out in the back garden, with E at an age where she could now appreciate it being fun. And she loved it.  Although she was rather apprehensive at first.

H on the other hand was loving it.

Totally running through it, splashing in it, slipping and sliding through it.

Barbie and Ariel seemed to be having a nice time too!

The other thing H loved, was that her sister was now of an age to play alongside her.

And to make mischief together!

This is something I’ve really come to notice in this last month.  The way that they are both interacting together nowadays.

I adore to watch them together.

We were meant to go to a birthday BBQ this weekend, but were unable to as Little E seemed to develop some sort of awful rash at the beginning of the week.  So it wouldn’t have been fair to take her to party, for both her sake and theirs.

So at least we could all have fun as a little family instead!

H couldn’t understand earlier today why the paddling pool wasn’t out, so I  tried to explain we had emptied it last night (because Daddy is very precious about his flipping grass), and have not refilled it.  Plus I explained it was raining.  This didn’t seem to compute.

Which made me think.

Why can’t we go out and play in the rain?

If we’re going to get wet anyway – where’s the harm as long as its not too cold?

So this is something I’m adding to my ‘bucket list‘, as I think it’s something I want to do with my girlies.

Watch this space!

And I promise to get better photos, perhaps even with them in clothes next time!!

Even lunch was semi clothed!!

dear beautiful

Paddling pools and bare bottoms……

So, yesterday was summer solstice.

And if I’m honest, I was meant to post this yesterday but was just so busy with other bits and pieces taking up my day that I was naughty and in the end just totally forgot!

So, the longest day of the year, where from here on in the days start to get shorter again, as we approach autumn and winter.

Ok, ok… that’s way off!

The kids haven’t even broken up for summer holidays yet!

So, instead of seeing the glass half empty, I thought I’d embrace the fact that summer is officially here and that we’ve got a while yet to make the most of it, so decided to share just a few things with you as to the reasons I both love and loath summertime……

Reasons I love summer

bare feet

bbqs

outdoor adventures with the girls

holidays

outdoor pub lunches

light, balmy evenings

pretty flowers

sunkissed skin

paddling pools and bare bottoms (the kids’, not ours!!)

happy smiling faces

fresh cut grass

warm sunshine

picnics

al fresco dining with friends

flip flops

long walks

pimms

waterfights

Things that spoil it for me!…….

hayfever and the pollen count

sweat patches

bare skin and bingo wings

sunburn and strap marks

lack of babysitters as they’re all on holiday

frizzy hair reminiscent of a bad perm

holiday traffic and caravans

mosquitos

wasps

And,I could really do with that rather controversial or elusive ‘thigh gap’ about now, as the tops of my legs rub when I’m hot and sticky!!

Fun at the fair

Each year, our sometimes rather sleepy (though not really so little!) town invites its local businesses, organisations, clubs and schools to don their fancy dress outfits and show off their crafting and invention skills to dream up, create and build their very own team rafts on which to race along a stretch of the Kennet and Avon Canal.

It was rather a lovely sunny day, not too hot, yet not too cold.  It was just right.

Our little family decided to take a leisurely stroll to the canal and down along the towpath to see what crazy rafts and antics we could spot on our travels.

I entered the race once before myself.

A very long time ago mind, through a company I was working with at the time.  I remember dressing up and generally helping out over the locks, where a support team, if you like, helps the rowers to haul the raft out from the water, carry it over the lock bridge, and quickly pop it back again, so as to keep on good time!

Sounds a bit nuts really doesn’t it – but hey, we all need a little ‘crazy’ in our lives sometimes don’t we.

Anyway, as it turned out, we were a little too enthusiastic and had obviously thought too highly of the teams involved, as by the time we’d walked the length of the canal side path to the park, we’d seen a grand total of zero crafts!!!

Oh well.  I suppose there’s always next year.

But in a way we weren’t too worried, as in the park they had laid on craft and games stalls, vans full of treats like candy floss, doughnuts, hot dogs; the pedaloes were dotted around on the duck pond and there were a whole host of miniature fairground rides for the kids to enjoy.

H was so excited!

She started on the swing ‘merry-go-round’ thing (I’m sure it has a ‘proper’ name, but I’m afraid I don’t know it!),  but didn’t really last too long on it!  In fact, she was hoisted off before it actually started merrily going around!!

She obviously didn’t fancy that one then!!!

So instead we headed over to The Big Top……..

IMG_5351

IMG_5356

And as you can see form the pictures, this was a little more successful!!!

Both H and Mr B climbed and slid down the rather high inflated bouncy slide about five times before their turn came to an end.

H came off buzzing!

Mr B admittedly less so!

And finally it was time to win the yearly inflatable!

Last year she proudly returned home with a three foot lollipop, but this year it was to be a three foot American baseball bat instead, complete with the obligatory stars and stripes!!

Naturally!!

And this was the same fair this time last year…

….complete with inflatable lollipop!!

How scary to think a whole year has flown by already.

I wonder what inflatable it will be next year??

And I wonder if we’ll actually time it right to see any crafts?!?!?
